February 13 2004 - Miles Obradovich is asked to advise the United Way of Peel

October 1 2003 - The amendments to the Insurance Act
contained in the provisions of Bill 198 become effective raising the deductible for
non-pecuniary damages in motor vehicle accident cases from $15,000.00 to $30,000.00 and
defining the requirement that an injured person must have suffered a permanent serious
impairment of an important bodily function with greater rigor. Changes are also made to
statutory automobile accident benefits and the procedures associated with claiming these

August 2003 - The largest punitive damage award in Canada to date is granted by
a jury in its verdict of $2,000,000.00 against an insurer by reason of its conduct in
refusing to pay a fire loss claim.

April 5 2003 - The Limitations Act, 2002 has been proclaimed to come into effect
on January 1, 2004. This Act changes the time within which an action for damages may be
brought. For causes of action which arise before January 1 2004 there are complicated
transition rules. It is best to consult with your lawyer to ensure that your rights are
safeguarded.
December 9 2002 - The Justice Statute Law Amendment Act, 2002, received Royal
Assent. Schedule A amends the Solicitors Act to regulate contingency fee agreements and
contains broad regulation-making power relating to contingency fees. For information about
